Lusungu Mtonga is one of the Partners at M and L Partners. He is also a lecturer in law at the Catholic University of Malawi. Before joining our practice, Lusungu worked at Savjani and Co for 6 years. Before joining Savjani and Co, Lusungu worked at Chibambo and Co. Lusungu’s area of expertise ranges from litigation, mediation, arbitration and offering legal advice in the following areas: Employment Law, Torts, Commercial Law, Corporate Law, Taxation Law, Competition Law, Property Law, Criminal Law, and many more. Clients who wish to stay away from courts benefit from Lusungu's broad experience in both litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
Lusungu holds an LLB (Hons), with Second Class Upper, obtained from University of Malawi as well as an LLM in Commercial Law obtained from the University of Cape Town. Lusungu also has an ICAM Certificate in Financial Accounting and he successfully completed four ICAM Accounting diploma courses (Business Law, Business information systems, Business Mathematics and statistics, and Economics).
During his undergraduate studies, Lusungu was known for his mooting expertise. In 2011, he was given the award of Counsel of the year during the Savjani Moot Court Competition. Lusungu participated and won a number of National Moot Competitions. Lusungu also participated in Regional and Global Moot Competitions. In 2014, Lusungu represented University of Malawi in the All African Human Rights Moot Court Competition which was held in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2015, Lusungu represented University of Malawi in the 2015 Concours Jean Pictet Humanitarian Law Moot Competition which was held in Virginia, United States of America.
Lusungu obtained his postgraduate degree (LLM in Commercial Law) in 2020. At the postgraduate level, Lusungu specialized in the following areas: Company Law; Corporate Governance; Labour Law; Competition Law; Commercial Arbitration; and International Trade Law. Lusungu is an Alumni of the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship. Lusungu has authored a number of Journal articles.

Alexander Chibayo is an associate at M and L Partners. He was called to the Malawi Bar in 2021 and has accumulated a breadth of experience in litigation and drafting both pre-admission and post-admission. Alexander graduated on top of his class with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College He was the sole recipient of the Dean’ of Law. Award for his outstanding academic performance during his 4th Year of Law School when he achieved a rare feat of obtaining distinction level GPA of 3.81 in the midst of all other academic demands.During his formative years after admission, Alexander worked under the tutelage and supervision of distinguished lawyers from Messrs Nicholls Brookes in Lilongwe and Messrs Destone Company in Blantyre. In those places, he was introduced to hands on and independent law practice with an emphasis in litigation, drafting of court documents and management of legal work and instructions.His current practice areas of interests are Labour Law, Commercial and Corporate Law, Property Law, Financial Services Laws, Administrative Law, Drafting, Litigation and Civil Practice, registration and incorporation of businesses and other organizations and legal research. Alexander is very astute at innovation and creative solutions to legal issues He was engaged as a regional representative for Malawi at the Afronomics Law Academic Forum where he was involved in training, writing, mentorship and learning on contemporary problems and solutions in international economic law as it relates to Africa and the global south. He ended up writing his initial article published by Afronomics Alexander on international solutions to corruption as was exposed by the Covid-19 pandemic in Malawi.
